Additional Resources

These books provide a wealth of information on AdSense and other affiliate programs. Following the tips presented in these books will increase your earnings right away! When I purchased them, the books paid for themselves in less than a week!

What is AdSense?

  • AdSense is Google's newest advertising program. It provides an opportunity for you, as a small Web designer, a chance to earn money from your Web site.
  • Advertisers bid for certain keywords in Google's AdWords program. Some of those ads will end up on your site.
  • Google crawls your site to determine the content of each page. For instance, if you have a page about Web design, you'll get ads for other Web design sites and merchants.
  • When one of your ads gets 'clicked', you get paid. It's as simple as that!

Signing up for AdSense

  • The first step toward monetizing your site with AdSense is to build a great site!
  • Content is king, and your goal should be to build a site that will attract visitors.
  • Make sure your site has no broken links, and does not violate any of Google's Terms and Conditions.

Once you've built a great site, submit your AdSense application. Here's a brief overview of some of the information you'll need to complete the application:

    • Your URL and the language of your site
    • Your name (matching the name on your bank account), address, phone, e-mail address, etc.
    • You'll need to check several boxes stating you will not click on your ads, and that you'll follow Google's policies.
    • While you don't need to provide your Social Security Number to apply, you'll need it before Google will release payments.
    • It's a good idea to have your payments direct deposited in your bank account. It's free, and quicker than waiting for a paper check.

Getting accepted

After you submit the application, you'll hear back from Google in a week or so, letting you know if you've been accepted. Once you've been accepted, you need to begin setting up your ads. Start by creating color palettes.
